Network Ireland West Cork celebrates 1 year anniversary with Dee Forbes of RTÉ

The Network Ireland West Cork March event celebrated its 1st year anniversary with inspirational guest speaker Dee Forbes, Director General of RTE, who launched the branch in March 2018. Dee was joined by Kevin Buckley, CEO at Spearline and Deirdre Waldron, Past President of Network Ireland and Partner at Fuzion Communications which took place on Thursday 28th March at West Cork Hotel, Co Cork. Attended by over 100 of West Cork’s business women, the event celebrated inspirational leaders and how they were fearless in the face of challenge on the path to success.
Dee Forbes said “be fearless” resonated with her because you must be open to change constantly in the media business in today’s world. She added “it is better to face challenges head on, understand what scares you and master it, this will give you your voice and make you feel like a warrior to face challenges to be a success”
Speaking at the event, Kevin Buckley, CEO Spearline said “he had to “be fearless” along his journey to be the success he is in Spearline today”. He added “if you don’t try you will never know and what is the worst that can happen” and “make sure to be encouraging and inclusive to others along your journey giving you nourishment for growth and learning in your business”.
Deirdre Waldron, Partner Fuzion Communications said” you can be shy and quiet and still decide to change your mindset take the leap “be fearless” and go for it! She added “by reinventing her inner mindset fuelled her ambition to get out of her own way and comfort zone”. “As individuals we need to feel energised to be fearless” on her journey as an entrepreneur and founder of Fuzion Communications.
Ciara Lucy, President of Network Ireland West Cork said “one year ago we had a dream to bring people together to share stories and connect with similar like-minded people”. “Today we proudly look back over the last year as we now have approximately 135 members joined and are now one of the largest branches in the country, a major celebration for Network Ireland West Cork” which is showing to be a great success with our members. She added “that when you bring people together you most definitely can do more as a region.’
Network Ireland West Cork holds networking events for members and guests in different locations in West Cork every month. The organisation currently has over 100 members and welcomes new members from across West Cork. Dee Forbes – Director General at RTÉ
Prior to taking up her role at RTÉ, Dee Forbes was based in London and over 27 years, worked for broadcasters and advertising agency Young and Rubicam.
Most recently, she was President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks Northern Europe. Dee joined Discovery in 2010 as Head of the UK/Ireland operation and progressively grew her responsibilities to eventually lead the Northern Europe region, which included 18 markets and territories and 27 channels, both free-to-air and subscription, which broadcast to over 276 million households across Northern Europe each month.
Before joining Discovery, Dee Forbes led Turner Broadcasting’s business in the UK and Ireland, which consisted of seven entertainment channels, including Cartoon Network, Boomerang and TCM. She spent several years working at Turner in a variety of commercial roles including General Manager for the Nordic/Central and Eastern Europe and EMEA regions and Head of Advertising Sales for Europe.
Dee is a former non-executive director of the board of The Irish Times and currently sits on the board of Munster Rugby. Dee is also a member of the Irish Advisory Board for UCD Business School. She is a founder and board member of Ireland’s first rural digital centre, The Ludgate Hub, Skibbereen. A native of Drimoleague in West Cork, Dee is a graduate of UCD where she studied history and politics.
Deirdre Waldron – Fuzion Communications
Deirdre is a partner with Fuzion Communications, an award-winning communications and creative agency providing innovative and strategic communication solutions, across traditional and digital channels, for top public and private sector clients in Ireland and internationally.
Deirdre founded the firm in 2000 and works with a core team of 15 talented graphic design and communication consultants between Fuzion’s Dublin and Cork offices.
Deirdre has been a member of Network Ireland for over 10 years, was President of the Cork branch in 2013 and National President in 2016.
