CHRISTINE SCARRY is a theatre director, creative producer, vocal coach and educator, with almost 30 years' experience across the cultural, corporate and education sectors.
As a director and performer, she has worked with national and international casts on a wide range of plays and musicals both at home and abroad, and has directed work in New York City as well as in theatres all over Ireland. She is Artistic Director of Red Alchemy Theatre Company, Musical Director of Alchemy Vox and, in 2022, joined the faculty at MTU Cork School of Music, where she directs and teaches Acting on the BA Musical Theatre programme. In 2024 her production of The Phantom of the Opera at the National Opera House was awarded Best Overall Show in Ireland, for which she also received the Best Director award.
In 2022 she founded The Sondheim Festival - the first festival to celebrate the life and work of theatre titan, Stephen Sondheim - now an annual feature on Kilkenny’s cultural tourism calendar. The next festival will take place from 15-16 February, 2025 with the Olivier-nominated actress Rachel Tucker (star of Wicked, Come From Away, etc) as the headline act.
In the corporate world, Christine has delivered her Virtual Voices Programme to both Women At Indeed and Glanbia as part of their corporate engagement, wellbeing and DB&I programmes, and she helps non-performative creatives to communicate their word-based art, poetry and other writings to the public. She also works with business people to develop their speaking skills and to help non-native English speakers achieve their full potential.
Christine is the director and pianist of Alchemy Vox – a group of six female singers who most recently performed their sold-out Winter Voices at The Sugar Club, Dublin, and who provided the entertainment at Network Ireland's Annual Conference in Theatre Royal, Waterford.
Originally from Dublin, Christine lives in Kilkenny City with her artist husband, John O’Donoghue, their gorgeous golden retriever Ziggy, and two crazy rescue cats, Dot and Clarence! Ziggy and Christine are a Visiting Team for Irish Therapy Dogs – a charity she has worked with for over ten years. She is also a member of the Stephen Sondheim Society, the British Voice Association, Vocology in Practice, and Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce.
